Factory layout planning is deciding where everything on a production floor goes — stations, machines, conveyors, buffers, walls, walkways, and safety zones — so that material flows efficiently, people and robots work safely, and the line hits its target output. A good layout is measured in travel distance, takt attainment, and how little the floor has to change when the product does.
Why it usually takes weeks
The traditional process runs through specialists: an industrial engineer sketches options, a CAD designer models them, simulation (if any) happens in a separate tool, and safety review comes last. Every iteration crosses those handoffs again. That is why layout studies are typically quoted in weeks — and why most layout changes on running floors are made with far less analysis than anyone would like.
